Perinatal and maternal health (17/10/2017)

A masterclass for students who are studying for the University Certificate Public Health Foundations (Children and Families) only.

For some women pregnancy and the first year of giving birth can trigger mental health problems. These not only affect the mother, but her partner and whole family. Sometimes the suffering can be avoided, but in severe cases it can lead to serious injury or death. We will look at what research can tell us about how to support good maternal health and what is known about why mental health problems happen, how to recognise them, what to do and what support is available.
